  Sounds like if your an uneducated fundie republican, you're clueless (or perhaps anencephalic) . After scanning the dial on the radio while driving along Iowa's west coast, attending a McCain/Palin event in Cedar Rapids, and watching Fox News, I'm not at all surprised. Imagine if people actually *researched* and *thought* instead of just binging and purging what the raving wrong wing ( Radical Rants, IrReverend Conrad, Ku Klux King, et al) spew...

  Never said I did believe Obama is better on foreign policy (I do, but it's irrelevant to the issue at hand). I'm not really interested in herrings, red or otherwise, so let's get back on topic.
  The point of the article, and my postings, is that a large percentage of people do not know basic facts about the next leader of the free world, and it seems that if you are GOP, you're less likely to know what Obama's religion is...same if you're under- (or un-) educated, same if you're a fundamentalist. Combine all three, and chances are you're waaay off base...not necessarily any one particular person (say, you), just statistically. It's hard to make a rational decision about someone when you don't know the facts...even harder if you have a strong belief in 'facts' which are false, wrong, erroneous, imaginary.
  Whether Obama's personal faith is relevant to the job he's applied for could make an interesting topic for a future discussion, but who a person chooses to be their invisible friend is isn't relevant to the premise of this discussion.

  RegJoe, what feeds YOUR prejudices? If GOP prejudice flows out of ignorance, mis-information and dogma, then please extol the virtues of being an Obama worshipper so GOPs everywhere can become enlightened. I wish we could stop the ridicule factor in political discussions. I find liberals/democrats to be extremely mocking, antagonistic people who care little about respecting others and preserving dignity. Also, if you think that religion- or lack of- isn't a huge player in what motivates or guides a person, you are limited in your power of reason. Theocracies are usually oppressive and repressive forces in a culture. Ideologies are important too - research 'Afrocentrist separatist' and see if you like that model for America.

  Obama's religion is Obamaism. Now, everybody got that straight? If he sat in a church for 20 years that spewed racist venom, either he didn't listen or is a racist. Or, he is the typical politician and was just there looking for voters. In any event, he certainly doesn't personify Christian values. He should have tried to "change" the attitudes that were being perpetuated right there in his own home turf.

  Care to explain what your version of "Christian values" entails, and perhaps who exactly does "personify" them? I notice the fundies don't seem to, except for those few choice bits they like. Hypocritical people piss me and God off.

  My idea of a Christian value is standing up when lies are spoken and speaking out against them. I really don't know too much about the "Fundies" because I am Methodist--Open hearts, open minds, etc. I generally lean left but this has been a tough election period. I dislike Obama's tactics of pretending to be "above the fray" while his campaign and supporters smear, distort and suppress other people's viewpoints.

  Thank you, Netter. That really says a lot about blacks voting for Obama. They want it really bad. I wish I could vote for O because I do think it's "their turn" but this guy just doesn't work for me. I'm holding out for someone I can trust a little more. McCain isn't perfect by any means, either.   I do not care if a person worships as a Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, or Jew. I do not care if a candidate is black or white. I do not care if a candidate is a war hero, I do not care is a candidate is a republican or a democrat. All I care about is if the candidate is intelligent enough to get this nation out of the mess we are in now.
  
  I am an Arizona Republican but I will not be voting for John McCain. Why? Because, with the problems in the US and the world is facing today the nation needs intelligence in the White House.

  McCain who does not know how to use a computer but is willing to learn if we elect him – I’ll just vote for that smart black man.

  COULDN'T BE SOMETHING BIASED IN THE POLLING QUESTIONS, COULD THERE? Many thinking, educated people have legitimate concerns about the influence of Obama's formative years. And, it would seem that in his political years it was expedient to partner-up with a Christian identity (albeit, a variant form of Christianity).

I really feel that Obama needs to cure a bit longer in the Congress and run for President when we have a better handle on the state of foreign affairs in the Middle East. As you read these things, bear in mind the controversies over Obama's heritage and ask yourself this, how can I be assured that Obama has a deeper loyalty to America and American Heritage than he does for his father's kin and sharia law? I do NOT believe Obama is a terrorist. I believe he is an important leader of this nation and a fascinating man with something important to contribute to this society. However, since Obama is not inclined to make a public confession of his Christian faith, it is not out of line to wonder if his studies of the Quran between the formative years of 2 and 10 took seed in his heart. I think he needs more wisdom and judgement before being handed this heavy baton in foreign policy.
