The Iowa Independent: Hiring a legal workforce: Does the E-Verify program work?

  • zeezil · 1 year ago
The single most effective weapon against illegal immigration is not what you’d first think of. It’s a piece of software called E-verify, an internet-based system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration. It allows businesses to check the legal status of its employees -- accurately, cheaply, and timely. It only takes seconds to get the answer! E-verify has literally given the American people the upper hand in the battle against illegal immigration. They have been able to prevail even when the money, power and the press has been against them. E-verify came into existence in 1997 as a limited pilot program and has been expanded, improved, and renewed over the years. But unless Congress acts to renew it soon, or preferably make it permanent, E-Verify shuts down in November and the single most effective tool against illegal immigration will disappear.

69,000 businesses are using E-Verify and it is 99.5 percent accurate.
E-Verify has identified 200,000 individuals (nationwide) who were trying to gain work in the United States who were not eligible, legally, to work. That's 5 percent of the workers screened. The system has handled 4 million queries this year, including nearly a half-million from Arizona.

"If you're an employer, you're no longer required to be a document expert," says Bob Dane, a spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform in Washington. "With E-Verify, you can tap into an automated Internet database that runs against almost 500 million records. It's fast, easy, and free to use. What's not to like?"
The very small number of people who actually are legally able to be employed that are affected are because of reporting errors by those same people or a database error upon previous information entry. Sufficient time is given to the person who receives a "tentative non-confirmation" to correct any incorrect information in the database. Clearing up information in the Social Security records is a good thing and this process does it.

What scares its detractors (illegal alien huggers and supporters) is that it is very accurate so they rail against its use.

I love the Liberal minds its all about how it makes you feel and not if it right or wrong. (NOT)

We should be helping people getting jobs, I believe that the people we need to support are American Citizens and not Illegal Aliens (criminals).

Just as a Police Officer will give you a ticket for speeding (Enforcing the Law).

We should expect the our Government (Federal, State & Local) to enforce the laws and protect American Citizens from criminals (illegal Aliens) by cracking down on those people whom believe they can ignore our hiring Laws to fatten their pockets.

Keep your Government Officials feet to the fire and make them stop the Illegal invasion of this Country by ending the hiring of all illegal Aliens.

    Great article.

Opinion: E-Verify - a solution to a problem that creates more problems

NEVA takes away funding and control from DHS and makes efforts to improve the system. Currently, SSA does most of the work and gets little of the funding.

A recent article cited a Congressman who accused DHS of shameless empire building. DHS monopolization of E-Verify is just that.

NumbersUSA and FAIR will only tell you half the truth.

No matter what excuses SHRM will put forward, their motive is very clear. They do not want law enforcement of any kind. I will not even be surprised if some of their own are on false documents. The honest fear no one. It is the guilty that try to find loopholes for escape. It is time Americans woke up and stood united to defeat all organizations like SHRM and all corporation who encourage violation of laws. The House has already passed the E-Verify program. The Senate should do the same. That is the only way to eliminate or minimize false documentation and illegal workforce.

Kudos to DHS and ICE for doing their job fearlessly.

Illegal aliens are not only taking jobs away from American citizens and lowering the wages of American citizens, as well as costing American citizens benefits that they have paid for (like welfare and food stamps and health care - in Los Angeles County alone over 1 Billion in just food stamps and welfare goes to illegal aliens who work under the table and help to send 26 BILLION a year in "remittances" our of the American economy back to oil rich Mexico) BUT they are also taking away America's right on the changing face of America. By illegally flooding the country, the balance of immigrants is now being falsely sku'd to benefit only those of "hispanic" culture and language. If we are going to let predominately hispanic illegal aliens flood the country then I say we need to let any Canadians, British, Irish, Australians flood the country too. Why should we discriminate and let predominately only one country / culture flood the country. I say not only enforce the use of E-Verify across the country but strenghthen it so that all loopholes are filled. Fight for America and her culture, and history.

Skipping all the rhetoric and ramblings of many who want to allow the continued invasion of illegal aliens sucking us dry and displacing jobs for American Citizens, anything that deports illegal residents should be employed. Thanks to ICE teams a small dent has been made in a serious expensive problem.
E-verify and all other means of detection must be employed. Apprehension and control of illegal aliens is a necessity for several reasons. If not stepped up and enforced now, the nation will be lost to the American Citizen. Hasn't the fact of illegal residency cost every citizen enough already? We are at war with a problem that affects every citizen. Uphold coded U.S. Immigration Law, protect the United States from the disruption and chaos at all costs. Illegal aliens are not welcome here. Please leave and deport yourself. Otherwise eventually ICE will! Americans have had enough of this flagrant disregard of our laws! Place the U.S. Army and Marines on our borders with clear orders to apprehend and defend the U.S. borders.
    Stop the invasion!

There are over 8.8 million unemployed American workers, and that number is increasing every day.

Illegal immigrants, using forged, falsified, or stolen identities, have illegally obtained 100's of thousands of jobs, that rightfully belong to American workers.

E-Verify will rid us of lying, cheating, and staeling, illegal immigrants, and give these jobs back to Americans.

    Americans need those jobs now.

Illegal immigrants have absolutely no right to be in our country, It is against our laws for them to be here.

It is against our laws for anyone to employ an illegal anywhere within our United States.

It is against our laws for anyone in our United States, to aid, or abet, an illegal immigrant.

Illegal immigrants need to leave, and they need to leave NOW!!!

    THERE WILL BE NO AMNESTY!!!

    OUR ACCEPTABLE IMMIGRATION REFORM

    #1. Secure the Border!!!
#2. Mandate E-Verify for ALL Employees!!!
#3. Mandate E-Verify for ANY Benefit!!!
    #4. Stop the Underground Economy!!!
#5. End Birthright Citizenship for Illegals!!!
    ......and make it retroactive!!!
    #6. End Chain Migration!!!
#7. Make English our Official Language!!!
#8. Cut Off Federal Funds to Sanctuary Cities!!

    NOTHING MORE!!! NOTHING LESS!!!

Look, whether you're talking about construction, meat packing and many other jobs, American citizen workers didn't walk away and decide they didn't want those jobs any more. They were fired, and replaced with cheaper, illegal labor. Those jobs used to lift American citizens out of poverty, now they are given to illegals who openly underbid the wages, and then turn around and demand welfare subsidies because they "don't earn enough". Facts are that when citizens worked those jobs, they weren't collecting welfare.

You can't claim to care about human rights, when you excuse the very actions that are violating the human rights and the civil rights of American citizens. That's what gets so many Americans ticked off.. those who wouldn't deign to soil their lily white, affluent hands doing manual labor assume because they wouldn't do those jobs, no one else in the country would. Those jobs are the difference between life and death for many, many American citizens. Try getting out in the real world and talking to some. They didn't win the powerball and move to Beverly Hills, or just disappear from the face of the earth. Many of them are barely keeping a roof over their heads, or have become homeless, while the so called "progressives" blather on making excuses for violating the laws that are in place to protect citizens from being exploited and discriminated against by the corporate interests said "progressives" claim to be taking a stand against.

You don't eradicate poverty south of the border, by excusing the status quo that helps maintain that poverty, nor does imposing that status quo here achieve that. Yet that is all your excuses achieve. Is it any wonder that "progressives" are so reviled these days?
