Harkin voted No on the first cloture vote. Harkin was one of only 10 who voted with Dodd on this first procedural vote.

The Filibuster GOES ON! Matt Browner-Hamlin at ChrisDodd.com says:

I just wanted to pop in with an update for what's going on in the Senate regarding FISA.

Right now, Senator Dodd remains on the Senate floor, speaking out on FISA and retroactive immunity whenever he has had the opportunity. This is not the filibuster.

Earlier today a cloture vote on the motion to proceed passed, as expected. We're now waiting for the Senate majority and minority leadership to establish the ground rules for debate on amendments to the underlying FISA bill by the Intelligence Committee.

Once those rules are established, we expect the Senate to begin by debating the Dodd-Feingold Amendment, which would strip retroactive immunity from the underlying bill. If that Amendment fails to pass, Senator Dodd will seek to hold the floor and filibuster the underlying bill. He will speak for as long as he can.

Keep watching C-SPAN 2 to follow the debate about FISA and retroactive immunity. We'll keep you posted with updates - there's still a long way to go in this process and contrary to reports by the New York Times and CQ Politics, the telecom companies have not yet won anything.

Presidential. ...That's the only word to describe Senator Chris Dodd's actions today. One man saved our Constitution. For now, for today.

Those who know me well know that one of the biggest reasons I am a Chris Dodd supporter is that he is a fellow veteran, he's worn the boots. To some that might mean I think he'll somehow deliver to our troops and veterans everything a grateful nation promised and more...and as a vet I benefit so of course I'm supporting the only viable veteran running.

Well, while that'd sure be nice it's not the reason that in this time of war I support a veteran to be the next President and Commander in Chief. Here's the deal...we vets, and those who've gone before and those who serve now, we all took an oath to support and defend  our Constitution, that very foundation of our country. We all signed on the line, in front of God and everybody, and pledged we'd kill or die to defend all of us. There is no patriot greater than he or she who is willing to pay the ultimate price for the benefit of all of us...We, the People. I can't think of any group which better understands the importance of our Constitution and the law thereunder.

FISA, retroactive immunity, constitutionality, the Rule of Law...these things are important issues, far more so than a job interview. While others flitted about Iowa, New Hampshire, and who knows where else to tell us they'd like to make a difference someday, one man made a difference today. Chris defended our Constitution today, just as he did when he wore the the boots. Of course, I expected nothing less from one who would be my President. After all, an oath is an oath, a promise a promise, and it matters.

Senators Biden, Clinton and Obama, where were you yesterday? The American people are not stupid, nor are they necessarily ignorant. We are, however woefully, naive to think that we can rely on getting accurate and up to date important news from our main stream media(MSM). I was sorely disappointed to find nothing in this morning's Cedar Rapids Gazette regarding the important stand that Chris Dodd took on the floor of the US Senate yesterday. Speaking of which, can anyone tell me where Senators Biden, Clinton, and Obama were yesterday? They had each committed to support Senator Dodd in his fillibuster efforts. Yet, when I called multiple campaign offices of these Presidential candidates in Iowa as well as there Washington DC Senate offices, I got nothing but conflicting information as to there whereabouts and whether or not they were on their way to Washington to honor their commitment to fight the FISA legislation that was before the Senate yesterday.

Iowa Caucus goers, wake up and smell the coffee. Take note of both what you hear as well as what you see. Leadership is demonstrated in the action of a man and/or woman, not in what they say.
