  • McCain & Obama and many others simply do not realize REAL costs of heath insurance. Eg, in NJ state law _requires_ insurance companies sell policies to all, specifically including anyone with any preexisting conditions. Consequently, anyone in NJ who has to buy an "individual" policy has to pay a premium that reflects the increased costs of what is effectively a high risk pool. My wife & I have been quoted (ready?) $86k per year for a 'standard' 80/20% coverage policy... yes, a level of coverage that is 'normal' for full-time employed professionals, however, less than the coverage our politicians get themselves! There is only one "solution" for this mess... single payer insurance. MDs en mass are behind single payer, as it would effectively eliminate ~30% of the overhead in dealing with insurance companies, and at same time standardize wide variances in our present "hydra-headed" and all too dysfunctional levels of coverage. All other "rational" counties have come to this conclusion - why has the USA persisted in a system which effectively polarizes coverage individuals can afford, or worse results in vast numbers of un or underinsured. Collectively, "we" ought be ashamed of ourselves!
